As you must know, pirates are currently terrorizing the high seas and modern day seafarers are frightened by the increasing number of hijackings and thefts from people with boats. The skull and crossbones symbol first appeared around five years ago, but has grown in popularity recently due to a number of organizations using it as something cool. They used the pirate symbol to show that they were not governed by traditional laws, and that they would go against authority on all levels.
